You may need to get creative to find loans for the unemployed with no bank account. Secured and unsecured loans typically require proof of employment and proof of an established checking or savings account. To secure a loan under these circumstances, the borrower has to pay higher fees, tap existing credit lines or consider selling their possessions.
No Payday
Payday lenders are a primary source of funds for small sums of money with short payback terms. While most require proof of income, they do not typically run credit checks and may accept unemployment assistance as current income. When these obstacles are passed, the next is receiving the cash. Without a bank account, the lender has no way of securing their loan or depositing the money. To overcome this obstacle, the borrower can ask a friend or family member with an account to act as co-signer on their behalf.
Borrowers using payday lenders or similar unsecured lending institutions will pay double digit interest. The interest is calculated into the loan as a fee and will recur every time the due date is missed. Small sums of money can multiply quickly when this happens.
Pawn it
No credit check or job history is necessary when possessions are pawned or sold at a pawn shop. These businesses charge high interest also, and create only short term notes. The borrower will get their possessions back when the note is paid in full. The advantage is receiving cash quickly, and the option to sell the item without further obligations attached. Items which do not have sentimental value can also be sold through classified ads or websites where the seller may receive a higher price than the shop will pay.
Credit Cards and Houses
An unemployed person with no bank account can take a cash advance out on a credit card. Using a credit card for a cash advance is quick and requires no job, checking or savings history. The cash is usually charged a higher rate than a simple purchase, however.
The homeowner with available equity can take out a home equity line. This process can take several days to complete, but interest rates are low relative to a payday note or credit card. Once open, the line can be re-used every time it is paid off, as long as the home has equity.
If possible, avoid lenders by selling unneeded possessions. Avoiding extra debt while getting back on your feet will help prevent present and future financial stress.
